Chess Week 2007

 Summary

We had an enjoyable Chess Week with plenty of happy participants. The numbers were down on recent years but the level of enthusiasm was high.

I particularly enjoyed working with the small Advanced group on the Wednesday. We were working through some puzzles on the screen  with everyone fully involved. The look on their faces was a joy to behold.

We met some new players who kept on coming back for more!

The UK Chess Challenge event produced a high number of qualifiers due to the age ranges (5 to 17!). Emma Yianni arranged for a photographer from one of the local papers to come along and we look forward to seeing some press coverage. The younger players, including those taking part for the first time were not fazed by the experience and are keen to play again.

The outright winner was Darius Faiz-Madhavi with 20 points (six wins and one draw) with Aditya Agarwala, Jonathan Davies Manaal Akhaney and Ravi Haria on 18 points.

We are now investigating the possibility of an Easter tournament.
